Sa'adu Zungur University Pledges Support for Violence Prevention Initiatives
Bauchi, Nigeria – Sa'adu Zungur University (SAZU) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peace and curbing violence within the university and the larger Bauchi community.
The pledge was made by the university’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Fatimah Tahir, during a two-day workshop themed "Re-understanding Violence Prevention through a Health Lens." The event was organized by Forward Action for Conservation of Indigenous Species (FACIS) in collaboration with SAZU and other key partners.
Represented by Dr. Musa Adamu Wunti, the Vice Chancellor lauded FACIS for its initiative and described the workshop as timely and impactful. She emphasized that peace and stability are foundational to educational development and socio-economic progress, and SAZU remains dedicated to supporting all efforts geared toward fostering a safe and secure environment.
The workshop seeks to equip students with practical knowledge and tools to understand and prevent violence, particularly through a health-centered perspective. According to Professor Tahir, engaging youth in such initiatives is vital to building a culture of peace and ensuring inclusive community development.
She called on students to actively participate in the sessions, assuring them of the university's continuous support. “We want our students to feel a strong sense of responsibility and belonging in the campaign against violence,” she said.
Dr. Salisu Ibrahim Waziri, the Senior Technical Advisor at FACIS, explained that viewing violence prevention through a health lens is based on extensive research and evidence. He highlighted SAZU’s active student-led clubs, such as the Students Environmental Conservation Club and the Peace Volunteer Club, as a driving force for selecting the institution for this impactful program.
Both SAZU and FACIS believe that sustainable peace and violence prevention can be achieved through strategic collaboration and empowerment of the younger generation.
