…Gombe Governor Declares State Ready for Global Investment, Economic Takeoff
Gombe State took a major leap toward agro-industrial transformation as former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, joined Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya to commission a world-class Seed Processing Factory established by Premier Seed Nigeria Limited at the Muhammadu Buhari Industrial Park, Dadinkowa.
Equipped with state-of-the-art technology for cleaning, grading, treating, and packaging of climate-resilient, certified seed varieties, the facility is designed to revolutionize seed supply chains across the Northeast and beyond — helping farmers improve yields and withstand climate change challenges.
Obasanjo Commends Gombe’s Industrial Vision
Speaking at the commissioning, Chief Obasanjo praised Governor Inuwa Yahaya for his foresight in establishing the Muhammadu Buhari Industrial Park, calling it “a noble initiative and a catalyst for sustainable economic development.”
Highlighting the importance of quality seeds, the former president stated:
> “Seed is the most indispensable input in agriculture. If you don’t get the seed component right, the entire value chain becomes shaky.”
He also emphasized the strategic advantage of the Industrial Park’s proximity to the 40MW Dadinkowa Hydropower Plant, noting it as a major asset for powering future industries in Gombe.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya: “This Is a Milestone”
Governor Yahaya described the commissioning as a landmark moment in Gombe's journey toward agricultural transformation and economic diversification.
> “This event marks a significant milestone in our efforts to position Gombe as a leading agro-industrial hub in Nigeria,” he stated.
“Premier Seed Nigeria Limited, as the pioneer investor in this park, is helping us turn vision into reality.”
The Governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to industrial growth, citing over N22 billion investment and 85% completion of infrastructure at the park. He highlighted Phase One’s progress, which includes full provision of roads, power, water, internet, and essential amenities.
He further mentioned other complementary projects like the Agro-Livestock Development Zone which will house an international grains market, abattoir, inland dry port, and integrated agro-processing corridor.
Premier Seeds, Propcom+ Partner for Climate-Smart Agriculture
Mr. Ibitoye Oyewale, MD of Premier Seed Nigeria Limited, noted that the factory was the result of collaboration with Propcom+, a UK-funded program supporting climate-resilient agriculture.
Dr. Abiye Ode, Country Director of Propcom+, commended the project for aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s 12-point agenda on food security and Governor Yahaya’s development blueprint.
Also speaking, Director-General of the National Agricultural Seed Council (NASC), Hon. Futuhu Mohammed, pledged regulatory support to ensure the highest standards of seed quality nationwide.
